Wow, that was... interesting to say the least.

Apr. 26, 2009 | 8:49 PM knightsofthecircle responds:

No one can describe it, that's why it's awesome.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 4:20 PM Mendou says:

Oh hey, sure is the same movie I was raving about last week.

Love it, best american animated film I've seen in a long time.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 4:24 PM knightsofthecircle responds:

Oh yeah, you said something about it last week, but I can't remember.

Anyway, Ralph Bakshi sure knows his shit when it comes to directing movies.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 4:39 PM Mendou says:

Bakshi has good ideas for movies, but I think he has problems with pacing and directing his ideas into film.

As much as I enjoyed American Pop, some of the song choices were questionable. I mean, come on, Pete was supposed to represent the 70's and early 1980 of the family, and he impresses record company(That were producing a record for a new Wave band to boot) with a Bob Segar blues tune? And then the last scene is him playing a song from the 50's?

That could have been improved, but yeah, about the only complaint I really have.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 5:01 PM knightsofthecircle responds:

Well, he was trying to put the history of about 90 years of american music in 2 hours, of course there's going to be a little rushing.

Besides, the ending was more of tribute to the entire movie rather than just Pete, that's the reason for the clips of the previous scenes.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 5:45 PM Mendou says:

I'm talking more about all of his films, not just American Pop. Also including 3-5 tunes from each decade in a two hour movie is not that difficult to archive.

Also that's my point, tributing American music with Bob Segar, just seems odd to me. Also Heart, no idea why they'd pick that either.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 5:54 PM knightsofthecircle responds:

Well, you've got a point there, most of his films do seem rather cut out to a point.

Also, when Pete is selling coke in the nightclubs, you can hear the Sex Pistols playing, which obviously isn't an American band, so go figure.

Apr. 27, 2009 | 6:10 PM Mendou says:

I think we should just agree that it was a great movie.

Also, if you haven't done so yet, watch his other film "Hey Good Lookin'" it's also another classic from him, painfully underrated.

The soundtrack is it's strongest point, excellent mix of 50's pop with 80's new wave.

Also I added you on both MSN and AIM, i take it you don't use 'em often?

Apr. 27, 2009 | 7:09 PM knightsofthecircle responds:

Yeah, we can at least agree on that it was worth the watch.

Alright, I'll look into it. If it's anything as good as American Pop, it should be worth the watch.

Yeah, I haven't used AIM in awhile and I sometimes go MSN when I'm bored.

Rotoscoping is pretty ballin'.

Shame no one but Bakshi uses it.

Fucking ever.

Apr. 29, 2009 | 7:23 AM knightsofthecircle responds:

Yeah, if they want to make animation look real, fuck CGI, use rotoscope.
